Friday Fictioneers: Wednesday

I’ve missed a couple of Friday Fictioneers, and I admit I’m not doing my best work, but this one came to me from the picture prompt, so I decided to post it. My mind is going sixty directions, but I tried to focus it for just a moment. Be sure to click on the link for Madison Woods’ fiction response this week. In the comments section you will find links to other Fictioneers and their creative responses.

This weeks picture inspiration (slightly cropped for emphasis) for 100 words:

Wednesdayย ย  100 words

Every Monday and Thursday, after his doctor-ordered “health walk” he would come to this quiet place to sit and plan the rest of his day, lazily. No rush now, He’d never thought he’d live out his retirement alone.

On Tuesdays and Fridays, she came here to her favorite place, to sit in the fresh air, letting the sun ease her rheumatism. Sometimes she’d read a book. Mostly she just enjoyed the morning air. No one to rush home to, but she didn’t mind. Not really.

One week it rained heavily on Monday and Tuesday. That Wednesday, they met.

Perfect timing.

What a great piece of writing, a slice from a New York pie, an orange in the darkness…you write guided by a gift.

    • Wow, Tom, thank you so much! An orange in the darkness, I love that. Have I visited your blog? If you have a link, I’d love to drop by.

What a heartwarming, beautiful, sweet story. Have a feeling they will become companions til’ their remaining days, instead of going it alone. Yes, Rich…a new genre’…senior romance…well, why not? This is my favorite story this week. Thank you Judee. Here’s mine:

    • Thank you for the lovely comment, Lora, you’ve made my day. And yeah, lol, with us seniors living longer, why not a new genre. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. your story was two words too long. “perfect timing.” in the last sentence before that, i already had a glow that told me it was perfect timing. just the idea that “they met.” was enough. well done.

    • You are so right, rich, and I appreciate the comment. I hesitated about those last words – I knew they were redundant, but I have a thing about getting as close to the 100 words as possible. I kept seeing 98 words, and finally decided to add the last two. Silly me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for the visit, and welcome to the challenge!

This was so sweet and romantic without any sinister traces except for the backstory which just sounded sad not sinister. Loved it!

  9. With all the darker stories (mine included) floating around on Friday the 13th, this comes as a very welcome change of pace! Such a sweet story, somehow reminding me of Pixar’s Up in the beauty of the (possible) love story here.

    • Thank you so much, Gary. It’s probably a good thing I didn’t make the connection with Friday the 13th, I might have gone dark after all, lol!

  10. I was expecting a dark mystery, especially with the outlined chronolgy in the early part of the story. That this is far more pleasant and romantic(?) than I thought was a lovely surprise. I like the image I got of the two characters and the serendipity of their meeting just felt… right. Very nicely done.

    Here’s my story this week:

This is wonderful, so heart warming. I love the fact some writers focus on the underpass, others focus on the bench. It really made me smile. Great work.
